Are you afraid of clowns? What about chainsaws?

Makeup ChairWe talked to one of the ghouls about what you can expect on your visit. We’ll refer to him here as M.V. to protect his identity from the howling maniacs who would shed his blood for spilling their secrets!

M.V. loves the challenge of Scary Acres, and enjoys getting things right down to the last detail. “It’s a live performance, so timing is key,” he says, “we are constantly thinking about how to design the attraction, how the lighting comes into play, and how to act, react, and interact so it produces the best effect.”

The setting of Scary Acres continually adds to the effect of the attraction. Functioning as two attractions in one (haunted hayride and corn maze), Scary Acres has the highly detailed and ornate sets of a movie, combined with the natural spookiness of nighttime outdoors. “The corn maze is incredibly scary, because there’s no roof,” M.V. tells us, “It makes it feel like it just goes on forever, and you’ll never get out. It’s a very real feeling of fear.”

Makeup ChairHow does M.V. try to elicit that real feeling of fear in his victims? “I treat it like a game, playing off each person. When one person starts to get nervous, the people around him or her start to relax. That’s when I move towards them, to create the tension in the group. They don’t know what to expect.”  And how does M.V. know he’s gotten that reaction he wants?  That’s easy, his grin seems to say: “I get a kick out of the look on someone’s face just before they react. That’s when I know I’ve connected.”

Thanks, M.V., for scaring the daylights out of us every weekend at Scary Acres!  Come to Scary Acres this weekend and give him the reaction he wants!
