The Spook Factor

We always wanted to know just how the actors over at Scary Acres get so scary! Luckily, longtime cast member B.R. is around to give us the inside scoop about what our favorite creepy characters are up to…
“There are so many components of each event, and we really put a lot of work into the planning of each individual experience. The most important part, of course, is the interaction with the customers -the focus is always on the actors, what they do and how they’re doing it,” said B.R.  Because Scary Acres is a live event, actors are required to think on their feet.
Big changes have been happening, and continue to happen throughout the season. Recently, even more actors have been added to provide a terrifyingly realistic experience for patrons.

Scary Acres is recommended for teens and adults, but some kids just can’t resist a good scare! When younger patrons come with their parents, how do Scary Acres actors strike a balance between fright and fun?  “Even though our goal is to scare people, we want families to be safe and enjoy the attraction,” answered B.R, “These kids will always remember, and keep coming back if they have fun while being scared.”

Finding the right actors for each scene takes time and effort, but it’s at the heart of success on Scary Acres.   “This is not just reciting a script or going through a routine,” B.R. points out, “It’s all improv. Sometimes it takes time for actors to find their way into the part. But we pick people who love finding new ways to scare patrons. Then we play up their best qualities; let them run with the character, creating it night by night.” Actors are trained to improvise off of patron interactions, so it’s always a new and different experience for everyone.

Coming into this season of Scary Acres, some changes were made in order to increase actor and participant interaction, especially during the wagon ride. This weekend, get up close and personal with our actors at Scary Acres…they’re a scream!
